A Regional seminar with the participation of Japanese experts on earthquake safety is being hosted in the Center

In Almaty on April 16, 2024, a 4-day seminar on Earthquake Risk Reduction and Management with the participation of Japanese experts on seismic safety started at the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The seminar was organized by the Japan International Cooperatopn Agency (JICA) jointly with the Center for Emergency and Disaster Risk Reduction (Center), Kazakh State Research and Design Institute in construction (KazRICA), National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NSCSORI), Kazakhstan Agency of International Development (KazAID) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The seminar is attended by representatives of emergency authorities, organizations for earthquake-resistant construction, seismic safety of the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan).

The purpose of the seminar is to share experience and relevant information between the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus and Japan to improve seismic safety and improve existing practices in earthquake-resistant construction, earthquake risk reduction and management.

Japanese specialists will share their experience in the field of seismic safety with representatives of Central Asia and the Caucasus, talk about innovative technologies and standards in seismic insulation, discuss potential cooperation in seismic construction, investigate the earthquakes that took place in Almaty and Noto, and assess the seismic vulnerability of existing buildings and structures in Almaty.

This event will help in the future to develop seismic risk prevention strategies in the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
